    Vintage 1940 Moriage Redware Teapot Japan Hand painted 24oz
    Vintage collectible Brown glaze teapot
    Brown betty. Moriage floral pattern made in Japan.
    This teapot is made of redware with dark brown high gloss glaze. Teapot is separated into 8 rounded panels one has the handle, one the spout & three form the front & back. The 3 front panels & the center back panel are hand painted with moriage floral pattern (raised applied decoration in Oriental red & white) along with an intricate hand-painted gold design Bottom of teapot is missing brown glaze (from manufacture on the bottom). & marked in yellow paint “MADE IN JAPAN”. Teapot probably dates to the 1940’s when many of these moriage teapots in this brown betty style were imported or brought back from Japan.
